ISO 20022 Real-Time Payments Group — The Archived Harmonisation Work and What It Still Teaches

ISO 20022 Beyond the Message

Using ISO 20022 does not automatically make two real-time-payment ecosystems interoperable. Shared syntax helps. Shared semantics help more. Shared usage rules, timing expectations, status behaviour and operating interpretation matter too.

The official ISO 20022 website now says that the ISO 20022 Real-Time Payments Group (RTPG) is no longer active and its related content has been archived .

We use that archive notice as historical context, then examine the interoperability questions that arise when different instant-payment communities use ISO 20022. The current page does not document the group's detailed historical mandate, membership or deliverables; the teaching models below are not attributed to RTPG as published requirements.

The workshop participants, countries, schemes, profiles, amounts and timing examples in this chapter are fictional. They explain implementation decisions, not a particular scheme's current operating rules.
